DEVELOPING DANCE FROM ELEMENTS THROUGH CIRCLE DANCING AND BEYOND

This practical course will help you to develop dance for pupils of all ages with Complex Needs. The Course will have a Sensory focus and will develop ideas just touched on during  the Elements Course.

The course will include examples of the planning and process involved in introducing age appropriate Dance as an Active Lunchtime Activity for pupils with Severe and Multiple disabilities. Sports Leaders and volunteers from other roles in school may support this activity.

There will be time to more fully develop Proprioceptive Massage and consider how and when this might be useful for your pupils.

Circle Dancing will be developed which can be used where some pupils are seated, some standing and some moving in three circles around the ‘Circle of Friends’ These Circle Dances can be linked to Seasons and Topic based curriculum activities. Both Co-operband and Parachutes will be further explored through these Circle Dances.

Sensory Dance development will be explored and your own unique contributions shared.

Please bring DVD examples of your dance work to share. Hadrian School will share their amazing ‘Dance of the Mermaids ’ performed at Dance City in Newcastle in June 2011.
