SENTASS Visually Impaired

SENTASS Visually Impaired website
Referrals may come from other SENTASS Teams, in particular, the Young Children’s Team and the Team for Children with Hearing Impairment. Late referrals may be made, for example, by Special Schools as further information about the child is identified through ongoing involvement and assessment. With parents’ agreement, following a late referral the teacher from the SENTASS Children’s Vision Team for Children with Visual Impairment will normally refer the child back to the Ophthalmology department for follow up review.

SENTASS

SENTASS website
SENTASS works with children in mainstream schools from Pre School age to secondary school age. They also work in Special Schools with a small group of children and young people with specific needs.

As well as working with children, there is a lot of support and training offered to staff, parents and carers and other adults who care for children with SEN. The Young Children Team offer support within your home as well as within nurseries and Reception classes.
As SENTASS is part of the local authority this means that a great deal of work goes into developing and producing SEN guidance and related publications, as well as responding to regional and national government developments in SEN and the government’s Every Child Matters agenda.

Newcastle Schools Sports Partnership

Cross country runs on freezing cold days or gym lessons in your vest and pants! There will be the fortunate few who remember fun and laughter in PE lessons that made you want to continue to play sport after you had left school.

Luckily school sport has changed and pupils nowadays have more opportunities than ever to take part in new and exciting activities during lessons and after school clubs. This is as a result of Newcastle School Sport Partnership´s plan to encourage young people to take up sport and physical activity. The School Sport Partnership´s aim is that “all children, whatever their circumstances or abilities should be able to participate in and enjoy physical education and sport”.

Every pupil in every school in Newcastle is part of this project which has been running now for 6 years – 30,000 pupils. The Partnership has School Sport Co-ordinators who are based in every secondary school to promote PE and sport. They work with local primary schools to put the fun back into being active by giving all young people a chance to try out thrilling new sports and activities in their own school.
